Frost is a client-side utility mod, similar to other Minecraft clients. Some servers restrict certain mods or clients in their rules, so always check a server's policy before joining.

Both are graphics renderers Frost can run on. Vulkan is the newer, lower-overhead option and gives the biggest FPS boost on most modern systems. OpenGL is the older, more broadly compatible option — it runs on more hardware and drivers, just with less of a performance gain.
Start with Vulkan for the best performance. If it fails to launch or crashes on startup, that's usually fixable — see our Vulkan setup guide for the Java arguments that solve it on most systems. Prefer not to bother with that at all? Grab the OpenGL build instead, it works with no extra setup.
On Modrinth, just head to the modpack's Versions tab, then pick your Minecraft version and select the OpenGL build from the list — Vulkan and OpenGL are published as separate versions for each supported Minecraft release.
After checkout, you're redirected to our thank-you page — just sign in with Discord there. Once you're signed in, your subscription is verified automatically and you'll get access to download FrostClient Lite right away.
If this happened, go to your Whop dashboard and click Discord. Sign in with Discord there, then click Claim Access — you should get the Lite Discord role right away. If you don't, contact us in a ticket on Discord.
Once you have the role, head to frostclient.eu/lite/download and continue from there.
Lite is a special build focused purely on performance — it pushes optimization further than the regular client, giving on average around 100–400 more FPS than classic Frost, depending on your hardware. On top of that, Lite subscribers get a badge before their nametag in-game, a special Discord role, priority tickets, and staff pings on Discord.

Right here on frostclient.eu — hit Download Free and pick your platform: Windows (.exe installer), macOS (.dmg, works on both Intel and Apple Silicon) or Linux (.AppImage). The launcher installs every Frost version for you, no Modrinth App needed.
Normally the launcher downloads and installs updates on its own. If it gets stuck on the update screen or keeps failing, just download the latest installer from the website and run it over your current installation. Your instances, settings and accounts stay exactly where they are.
On Windows the update log is in %TEMP%\frost-launcher-update.log — send it to us on Discord if the problem keeps coming back.
No. The Frost Launcher replaces it — it downloads the game, Java and every Frost version by itself. The .mrpack route through the Modrinth App still works if you prefer it, but the launcher is the recommended way now.
Your Discord account is what links FrostClient Lite, your capes and instance sharing to you. You need to be a member of the FrostClient Discord server — join it first, then sign in from the launcher.
Java refused to start before the game even loaded. First make sure you're on the latest launcher version (older launchers used Java 21 for Minecraft 26.x, which needs Java 25 — the launcher now downloads the right one by itself). If it still happens, open the instance's Settings tab in the Library, lower the RAM slider and remove any custom JVM arguments you added.
Open the instance in Library and switch to the Crash Logs tab — every crash report is listed there. Use Logs → Export bug log to save a .buglog file and send it through frostclient.eu/report; it contains your mod list, system info, latest log and crash reports, which is everything we need.
The launcher isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first start. Right-click the app and choose Open, or go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. You only have to do this once.
Yes. Open the instance in Library → Mods and either use Add Mods to browse Modrinth straight from the launcher, or drag and drop .jar files into the list. You can also toggle mods on and off there — the launcher warns you if another mod depends on the one you're removing.
That means your Lite subscription isn't active anymore, so the Lite instance is locked. Resubscribe to keep playing it, or pick a different (regular) version from the version selector — those always stay free.
There are two ways to get Frost: the Frost Launcher (recommended, installs everything for you) or the classic .mrpack modpack file through the Modrinth App. Pick the one you want to follow.
Hit Download Free on the homepage and grab the installer for your system — Windows (.exe), macOS (.dmg) or Linux (.AppImage) — then run it.
Sign in with Discord (you need to be on the FrostClient Discord server) and add your Microsoft account for Minecraft. Both take a few seconds and you only do it once.
Open Library → Install another version, choose the Minecraft version and the renderer (OpenGL or Vulkan, Lite if you have a subscription) and confirm. The launcher downloads Java, the game and every mod by itself.
That's it — press Play on the home screen. Updates, mods, capes and instance sharing are all handled inside the launcher from now on.
The .mrpack route installs through the Modrinth App — download and install it first if you don't already have it.
Click the download button on the homepage — pick your renderer and version and download the .mrpack file from modrinth where you will be redirected.
That's it — just double-click the downloaded file. The Modrinth App picks it up automatically and installs Frost Client for you, no manual setup required.
Once the install finishes, you'll find Frost listed as an instance in the Modrinth App — select it and press Play.
